What this service handles

For anything inside about four hours' drive of Chicago, a chauffeured vehicle beats flying on almost every measure that matters: door to door rather than airport to airport, no security line, no bag limit, and the ability to work or sleep the whole way.

Regular routes run to South Bend, Milwaukee, Madison, Indianapolis, Rockford, Champaign and the rest of the region. They are booked as ordinary movements with a pickup and a destination — the distance changes the price, not the shape of the booking.

Where the trip is out and back in a day, a standby charter is almost always better value than two one-way movements, because the second one is paying for a deadhead either way.

How VaultPac coordinates it

Every booking is a trip. A trip carries trip services, and each service breaks into the individual movements that actually have to happen — which is why the people and the bags do not have to travel the same way.

  1. Trip
  2. Trip services
  3. Individual movements
  • Passenger movement

Sedan, SUV, Sprinter, minibus and coach movements priced and dispatched by the transportation engine.

  • Ordered stops

A movement can carry intermediate stops in order, so a route with three pickups is one movement rather than three bookings.

  • Trip → Trip Services → Movements

One trip holds every service on it, and each service breaks into the individual movements that have to happen. A single booking can carry people and bags on different vehicles and different clocks without becoming two bookings.

  • Dispatch monitoring

Every movement on one board while it runs, so a late arrival is seen rather than reported.

  • Operator assignment

Movements assigned to a specific operator and vehicle, with the assignment visible to dispatch throughout.

  • Luggage movement

Bags booked as their own movement, with their own route, their own timing and their own proof.

  • Oversized & special items

Golf bags, trade-show cases, strollers, production cases and similar items counted on the movement so the right vehicle is assigned.

  • Changes during the trip

Times, stops, vehicles and passenger counts can change after a trip has started without rebooking it.

What runs this movement

Assignment reads the passenger count and the bag count, so the vehicle that arrives fits both. Larger movements run several.

Why VaultPac for this

  • Door to door, which is the comparison that actually matters against a short flight.
  • No bag limit and no oversized-item surcharge from an airline.
  • Out-and-back days are usually better booked as a standby charter, and we will tell you when that is true.

The operating experience behind VaultPac

Long-distance and regional chauffeured movement — Chicago to South Bend among the most frequent — was a recurring pattern in the transportation operation behind VaultPac.

VaultPac was built by transportation operators. Where this site describes earlier work, that work was performed by Chicago Limousine — the transportation operation behind VaultPac — and not by VaultPac itself.

Questions

How far will you go?

Regional destinations within a comfortable day's drive as a matter of course, and further by arrangement. Beyond a certain distance we will tell you honestly that flying is the better answer.

Is it cheaper than flying?

For one person, usually not. For three or four people with luggage, frequently yes once bags, parking, and both airport transfers are counted.
